Aashooraa
I guess I am religious, although my Egyptian officemate laughed at me when I said so! It is funny. These sonni people accept easily that it is up to us to choose if we want to wear scarf or not. Even if a girl doesn't use scarf they won't consider her nonreligous but when it comes to prayers, if you don't do your daily prayers it definitely means you are not religious. The base is the same. Everything is cultural. We are both Muslim but we don't agree on anything about our religion.
I guess I am religious; I felt very bad when I read about these cartoons of Mohammad(s). I don't agree with any wild action against these silly people. Big people like Mohammad never get hurt because of the word of some idle people. I do believe in freedom of words. Ok, you are free, but why would you say something to hurt other people or insult them?? Is there something wrong with you? Go see a doctor. I don't see a big difference between those who kill others because of their beliefs and those who insult and belittle the others. Both are sick. The difference is in how bold they are.
I guess I am religious. some days I really miss Iran. One is Aashoora. It is not because I have always had fun on this day. Actually I have never had. One reason is that I feel we have something special on this day. A tradition that even it may not seem quite neat, it's ours. The other reason is that I feel if I want something from God there is a chance for me to ask it on this day. I know that I might be wrong but I may not be wrong either. I like to give it a shot every year :) I won’t lose anything doing that.
PS: What are the boundaries of being friends, caring friends or a couple?

Okay, the stupid cartoon made me upset and angry, not because it made idiotic fun of Mohammed (as you say, he is far above such stuff) but because the implication of it seemed to be that all Muslims were violent, that yours is a faith based on violence. And this I know not to be true.
As a sad result of my horror at the invasions and bombings the US government was doing, and particularly after 9/11 when there was so much anger in my country, I undertook to read the Koran (in translation, of course!). I had been told all sorts of stuff about what it said, and what I found within it was very different from what I was told I'd find there.
It didn't really surprise me, because I have found most spiritual paths seem to have the same goal. It is kind of like looking out of different windows at the same landscape, and maybe your window has a pretty rose color and is high up, and you see the orchard, and my window is blue and over on the corner and I see instead the rose garden--but we are looking at the same thing (does this make sense?)
And even within a supposed faith people have different senses of what things mean, or what is the True Tradition or whatever.
Mostly, I don't worry about this--except when fools try to mock another's faith, and distort it.
Oh dear. I am ranting, and I'm not sure I'm making sense, and I'm filling up your comments space!
But I am glad you hold to your tradition, Kimia, and I am sorry about stupid people in this world.

And a second post: I think the boundaries of being friends, caring friends, and couple have to do with exclusivity. Friends may have many, equal friends; perhaps even caring friends may, but I think couples are faithful to one another (at least in the ideal world--I realize that often this doesn't happen)

the one we have in Iran is just a sad festival!! yeah! belive it!
you may feel some need to god. you can pray, i definately agree with that, becuase that is really effective, you feel lighter after praying, you feel closer to your god. if you have a god in your heart, yes, you try to get closer to it with whatever ways you find. but those ocassions i never trust. they are just for affecting people politically.i personally don't like showing off.

Dear Jarvenpa, I'm glad and surprised that you read Koran. I'm afraid to confess that I say I'm religious but I haven't read whole Koran yet. Well, I know most of the verses, but I've never sat and read the whole book. I totally agree with you about the different view of the same goal in different religions. Something that I think of is that religions are misused, misunderstood and distorted in these days. Actually, I think they made fun of the existing Islam which is far away from what you read in Koran. I am dare to say in my country 80% of religious people are people who haven't got the point of their Book. That's why these disasters happen and Islam is charged for all these happening.
I always appreciate you spend your time reading my blog and making useful comments, Thanks. :)
hey, Sara .. :D I know why you like me after this post. You have always tried to make me religious ;) you are getting closer to success :D
Pedram, I don't believe that these days this is a sad festival in Tehran. Actually, it is a holiday that everybody goes out with friends and you know you will never have bad time when you are with your friends or family :) especially at Shaame ghariban, which is a big exhibition of every kind of people gathering close to masques. It is, in fact, a big party. I always bump into old friends in Shaame ghariban. It seems you haven't been in Tehran for a while.
yeap, I'm a little bit conservative and that refers to my confession in previous post.
